Creating the perfect Walk In Wardrobe – Five Key Considerations
Let’s face it, most of us would love the convenience and pleasure that a walk-in closet can provide. What many people don’t know though, is that it can be easy to achieve with the right design and a little preparation.
So with that in mind, here are our top five tips to send you on your way to organised clothing heaven:
1/ Make room for your wardrobe
It’s a common misconception that you need a bedroom the size of Kim Kardashian’s in order to accommodate one.
Ok, so you’re in a modest semi in the suburbs, not a mansion in Malibu, but work with what you have. You’ll find space in the strangest of places that can offer up storage solutions for your stuff. Slanted ceilings, unusual alcoves and strange angles all present space that can be used.
2/ Make quick and easy wins
Sliding doors can go places that conventional wardrobe doors can’t, so if your space is smaller, it’s the perfect choice for both your internal doors inside the wardrobe, and the main doors to the walk in itself.
Take the opportunity to have a clear out so you’re only left with exactly what you want to store in your new walk-in.
3/ Hang fire
We’ve lost count of the times we’ve heard ‘I’ve got enough drawer space, but I’ve got nowhere to hang stuff’. Hanging space is less flexible than drawer storage – you can’t put a wardrobe where you could put a set of drawers.
Assess your current clothing that requires hanging, and what length of hanging space you need. We recommend adding 20% to this, to ensure you give yourself enough space and aren’t frustrated with a cramped wardrobe in 12 months’ time.
4/ Think outside the shoe box
When we’re talking clothes, storage doesn’t have to be boring so let your creative juices flow and think outside the box. Shoes take up a disproportionate about of space, so why not consider a pull out drawer that can house multiple pairs?
Drawers generally offer maximum use of space and are great options for clothes that don’t require hanging.
5/ Go configure
A configured walk-in closet is a bespoke wardrobe solution that will provide you with the absolute maximum useful space per square metre, and it’s not as expensive as you think. There’s no such thing as a ‘standard’ configuration either, all designs are created to perfectly match your needs, house and lifestyle. For more information on our walk-in range, click here.
